Garapa Decking

What is Garapa Decking?

Garapa decking, also known as Brazilian Ash , is an outstanding choice for exterior decking. Lighter in color than Ipe and Massaranduba, Garapa Decking is a beautiful honey-toned Brazilian hardwood that is extremely durable with low maintenance. It typically has fine, straight grain with some pieces having a ribbon grain that give your deck a modern but classy look. eDeck.com is your one stop shop for all of your Garapa Decking & Supplies. Our stock also includes Garapa Lumber.

Garapa (apuleia leiocarpa) decking is kiln-dried and “clear” grade – free of knots and sap. This dense exotic South American hardwood is a great choice for decking and exterior applications because it is resistant to rot, decay, splinters and scratches. With proper care and maintenance, expect decades of enjoyment out of your Garapa deck.

As the wood naturally weathers, it takes on a light silver/gray patina, which means there is no need to apply stains or sealers annually if you want minimal maintenance. If you would like to keep that honey brown color, finish with a UV inhibitor such as Messmer’s UV Plus. Or if your deck has already weathered and you would like to bring it back to its original look, use a deck cleaner/brightening system specifically formulated for Garapa Decking and other exotic hardwoods, such as Messmer’s cleaning/brightening system.

Garapa Decking is extremely popular in modern architecture and is a cost effective alternative to Ipe Decking. It really is a great deal when you compare the price to its durability compared to other options.
